Are our homes safe for older adults?

Do you remember Bob? Bob has been having problems with his balance. In addition, Bob's eyesight is worsening and Bob finds it difficult to move around the house.

Imagine yourself to be with Bob inside his house. Help him to identify some of the risks that he might encounter as he moves around the house. You can take a tour of the house along with Bob room by room. Start with the living room, proceed to the bedroom, the bathroom, and then to the kitchen. Do not forget the stairways and any other features of the house that you think might be an hindrance to Bob.

If it is difficult for you to imagine being in Bob's shoes, try wear a pair of dark sunglasses inside your house. Your vision will be dimmed and you might experience similar perceptions like Bob.
